Quilt Shows and Other Excitement

A couple of weeks ago, my local quilt guild had its biennial show. What a blast! I always love going to it! Of course, I know many of the people attending, so it's a wonderful socializing opportunity. Plus, there are fabulous quilts, vendors, special exhibits, and demonstrations. What's not to like?

This year, I was delighted to win two awards. Cosmo Boogie won second place in the art category, and an adorable little Honorable Mention ribbon was pinned to Lakeside Citrus, in the appliqué category.

But, I think I had the most fun with the demonstration I conducted. It was called "Increase Your Fiber with Raw Edge Applique." Starting with one of my photos, I had made a rough computer sketch. This was my very loose game plan, which I showed to the group. I had a quilt background completed, and pinned to a portable design wall. Before the demo, I loosely cut a lot of bright flower "leaves," which I distributed to the audience members. Then, I called on them to help me with the composition. . This was great fun! We collectively auditioned various leaves, changed sizes, placement, and more. It was fast paced and exhilirating! I'll be doing a similar demo, soon. (See below.) Can't wait!

I'm always happy to see quilts shown as art, and when the quilts are my own it's downright thrilling! As part of the exhibit events, I'll be doing a fun fabric collage demonstration, on May 17th. I hope that many of those attending will be unfamiliar with fabric art, so I can show them how wonderful it is!

This show will be the first time my five Body Language quilts will be hung together, and the public debut of Caring. To get a sneak peek of the quilts included, check out the Quilts on Tour page.

I had hoped to have this quilt, at left, finished in time to show it off in this newsletter. Since that didn't happen, I thought you might like to see a photo essay of what I've done, so far.

I've added that here. Next month, I'll bring you up to date with Part Two, and show photos of the finished quilt. (She says with confidence.)
