Payment:
Why does this site use PayPal for financial transactions?
PayPal acts as a secure financial middle man.  With it, you never have to share financial information with the seller.  PayPal's secure site protects your privacy and financial information.  Learn more about PayPal at www.paypal.com.
I don't like the idea of opening a PayPal account.  What other options do I  have?
You can make a one-time purchase with PayPal, just like you would with any other online store.  You provide your financial information through PayPal's secure site, for one  transaction, only.   PayPal does not save your information.  If you make purchases in the future, with PayPal, you will have to enter all your information again.  (This inconvenience is the main reason to have an account.)  Both methods are equally secure.  Learn more about PayPal at www.paypal.com.
I don't like using credit cards.  Can I ask PayPal to deduct money directly from my checking account?
Yes, but it may slow down your transaction.  Learn more about PayPal at www.paypal.com.
Can I use a debit card with PayPal?
Yes.  Learn more about PayPal at www.paypal.com.
I paid for my class and received a confirmation from PayPal.  When will I get the classroom key?
The classroom key is typically made available two weeks prior to the start of class. If it's within that time frame when you sign up, you can expect to receive the key within two days, usually sooner.

Privacy:
Will other people be able to see my email address?

If you choose to participate in the Yahoo group forum, the other class members will see your email address.
Will my personal information be shared in any way?
No, other than the potential for another class member to see your email address, as mentioned above.  Read the full Privacy Policy..

Class Format:
I'm a beginner quilter.  Are these classes appropriate for me?
It depends.  Each course description includes the skills needed by you, your sewing machine, and your computer, as appropriate. Some classes, such as the color class are appropriate not only for beginning quilters, but also for artists in other mediums.
How many lessons are in each class?
It varies.  The course description will always include this information.
How long is each lesson available?
Once posted, all lessons remain available. The class ends two weeks after the last lesson is posted.
What do I do if I don't understand something?
Post a question to the forum, or directly to Ellen.  (See a link for contacting her, at the bottom of the page.)  Posting to the forum is preferred, since other students can often learn from the answer.  Plus, students on the forum help each other a lot, and can sometimes solve a problem before Ellen even reads the question.
How can I show my work to Ellen and the other classmates?
Use the forum (see that section.)

Computer Help:
I'm not very technically savvy.  Will Ellen be able to help me with computer issues?
Not really.  These classes are designed for students with moderate computer skills.  This is why there's a six day money back guarantee.  That time allows you to experiment with the class forum and other aspects of online learning, to see if it is a good fit for you and your computer.

Using the Class Forum (a Yahoo group):

Why is using the forum recommended?
The forum is the online version of both Questions and Answers, and Show and Tell.  It is the means by which all class interaction occurs.  When Ellen asked for feedback on this issue from a group of students, 100% of them highly recommended use of the forum.
How complicated is forum usage?
It's VERY easy. You'll receive an invitation from Ellen to join the class group. You simply click on a link and follow the simple directions. Then, it's easy to post messages or photos.
How quickly can I expect a response, from Ellen, to my forum post?
Typically, Ellen checks her email every few hours.  On very rare occasions, she may only check it in the morning and again in the evening.   Either way, her first email task is to read and respond to the forum posts.
I understand that forum-type groups sometimes generate a lot of email.  I don't want that.  Can I post to it, without getting all the email?
Yes.  You can set up your Yahoo account to receive every message, a daily digest, or special notices only. You have complete control over this and can change it as much as  you'd like.  Every Yahoo page has help links.

Posting Photos:

I love the idea of sharing my photos in the forum, but I don't have a digital camera.  Are there any options?
Not really.  You must have a digital image to post it to the forum.
How do I post photos to the group forum?
It's very easy. First, you create a photo album with your name, on the Yahoo group site. Then, you can add photos.
I tried attaching a photo to my forum post, but it didn't show up in the Yahoo group.
That's right. With Yahoo, posting messages and posting photos are two separate operations.

User Agreement:
How may I use the material?
Your download gives you the right to print the file once. The material may not be used for teaching.

Money Back Guarantee:
Is there any sort of guarantee?
Yes, Ellen says "My goal is to always provide you with a high quality class at a good value. If you feel that I have not done so, please contact me within 6 days of the start of class, and I will give you a full refund."
What happens if I want a refund after more than six days have passed?
At that point the second lesson will be posted and you will not be eligible for a refund.
