If you're a member of the National Quilting Association, perhaps you noticed my article, Start with Color, in the recent issue of The Quilting Quarterly. I was thrilled to be invited to write about one of my favorite subjects. Of course, I had more information to share than could be contained in one installment, so I've been asked to write another one for the next issue. More fun!

One of the best articles on color that I have ever read. Jean Ann Wright, editor

Image - Ripening quilt, with red and gree berriesBorder Decisions
In last month's newsletter, I showed you my latest quilt in progress, as I considered the prospect of a border. As you can see, I opted to add both an outer and inner border. I also decided to continue a dark version of the imagery into the outer border, which I think is very effective.

Ripening showcases the vibrant berries of a Christmas Palm . It's aptly named, because here in Florida, the berries ripen in December, displaying both red and green fruit. You can see a larger version of this quilt here.

As I considered my border options, I considered many different factors. I thought you might like to read about how I arrive at a decision, so I've written a photo essay on the topic. You can read Part One here. I'll post Part Two next month.
